The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Christmas day is here, and although we don’t get any snow in the tropics, the rainy weather is just perfect for hiding in the sheets!

Unfortunately, video production isn’t a particularly seasonal business, and the end of the year is no less busy than any other period. In fact, seasonal periods can even be particularly busy times, such as when we had to create a video for Robinson’s Christmas campaign back in 2017 , as well as other content in conjunction with festive periods like Deepavali and Hari Raya.

Yet no matter how busy, we always try to retain the spirit of Christmas at OHBOY – from the setting up of our Christmas tree, to a gift exchange among colleagues and lunch on Christmas Eve. Lunch is usually also preceded by a common company activity – in the last couple of years, it was ice skating and a day out on a yacht respectively.

But one of our longest-standing traditions (for a company as young as us!) is to reach out to our clients and partners with a simple greeting card to wish them well for the season and year ahead. Yet rather than strive to find or print the ‘perfect’ card, for the past 4 to 5 years, we have purchased ours from social enterprises such as Bizlink or SPD. It’s not just for a good cause – many of the cards are more than comparable in design to others out there! And while our order is not particularly large, it is our little way of honouring the spirit of Christmas.

This year, OHBOY further extended our reach to the community by spending an afternoon packing and delivering food bundles in conjunction with Foodbank and the Kampong Kapor Family Service Centre. Beyond simply donating money, it was a rare chance for us to participate in the process, but in a guided manner that ensures that clients actually benefit.

And so while OHBOY is not a large corporation with millions in the bank, we definitely believe that there are ways that we can live the Christmas spirit – not as a religious holiday or because of Santa’s naughty and nice list, but because remembering those less fortunate than ourselves is simply the right thing to do, as we indulge in our Christmas feasts and snuggle under the warm covers while the cold rain falls outside.
